Vitacost Chia Seeds - 15 grams per serving -- 16 oz

A nutty-tasting nutrient-rich “superfood” providing omega-3 EFAs fiber and more. What are chia seeds? Chia seeds are nutrient-rich seeds derived from a plant called Salvia hispanica (of the mint family) native to Mexico and Guatemela. Aztec and Mayan civilizations regularly consumed chia seeds as a whole grain or ground into flour and used in a variety of dishes. The word chia means “strength” in the Mayan language and according to folklore the seeds were prized by ancient cultures for their energy-boosting properties.  . How do Vitacost Chia Seeds support health? Chia seeds contribute to overall health strength and vitality.*. Powerful free radical scavenging ability.*. An excellent source of fiber supporting a feeling of fullness; may help those trying to reduce the calories in their diet. *. Chia seeds are a natural source of omega-3 essential fatty acids (EFAs) particularly alpha-linolenic acid. Omega-3 EFAs are polyunsaturated "good" fats. They're "essential" because the body needs them for complete health yet it cannot produce them on its own ( they must be acquired through diet or supplementation). Why choose Vitacost Chia Seeds? Product is non-GMO. Gluten free. Suitable for vegetarians. One container provides 30 one-scoop (15-gram) servings. Exceptional quality at an extraordinary value. About Vitacost. "Naturally occuring Omega-3 fatty acids that go really well in yogurt, smoothies, soup, cereal etc. Very palatable and not a chore to take. I like how these tiny seeds soften to a gelatinous form in liquids or any moist product."

Gets Stuck between Teeth and Gums
 January 13, 2012
By Cleopatra
"I purchased this because I heard about all the health benefits, but unfortunately, I had no idea beforehand what the seeds looked like. They are very very tiny, smaller than poppy seeds. Buyer beware if you have any dental or gum issues. Even soaking them left a gritty texture that can irritate gums. Threw it out."

"Chia seed has been a great supplement for me in it's ability to help keep me hydrated.
I find that soaking the seed for a while before adding it to
foods seems to improve it's digestability.
I've used the white seed, but Vitacosts black seed is just as effective at a lower cost.
While this is my subjective opinion,I believe it may be partly responsible for my lack of thirst, even in hot weather."

"this product is good quality and priced right can be found cheaper but you stick with what works. When I place my order I forget about it until it lands on my doorstep Vitacost takes care of the rest. This product is easy to consume and the health benefits are awesome and tons of extra fiber and omegas"

"I particularly like the Vitacost brand as the products appear to be on the same level as the other more expensive brands.
I use the Chia seeds in my vegetable smoothies daily and sometimes I mix it with water and have it as my cereal.

Great for satiety!
 November 18, 2011
By htjj
"These are great for many reasons, and as a runner, I love them for the fact that they help with satiety. When I run long distances, I seem to feel hungry often, and when these are added to protein smoothies, cereal, or my oatmeal, I'm not starving by the end of the day. They're also very hydrating, which is great during southern, hot summer months!"

Wow, I'm a believer!
 March 20, 2011
By BodybuildingRN
from New England
"I purchased these primarily as a non-animal source of Omega 3 fatty acids. I didn't expect that the seeds would have such a welcomed "regulating" effect on my digestive system, nor that they would be so fun to eat. I either add them directly to my cooked oatmeal in the morning, or I mix them with unsweetened almond milk and let them form a gel that I add to my bedtime snack of cottage cheese w/cinnamon. Either way, I love that I am giving my body something that is so beneficial (even though I can't actually FEEL the benefits of Omega 3s.) Great product!"

Chia Seeds are much better
 September 28, 2010
By MissPiggie
from Michigan
"I was taking Psyllium husks for fiber when it was suggested that Chia Seeds were much better. Not only for its fiber content, but its packed with much more nutritional value.
I love these Chia Seeds. Soooo much better than the husks, hands down.
The first review of this product kinda grossed me out with the word slimy. Don't let that get to ya like it almost did me.
Its more like drinking soft bubbles. Pour your seeds into some SoBe water, give it a good shake for a few minutes and drink down the tiny bubbles.
LOVE IT!!!!! Oh and VitaCost has an outstanding price and great service.
I put this one on auto ship."

easy way to get 3 in 1
 August 11, 2010
By Jezzy

"This is an easy way to get omega 3, fiber and protein with only a few calories.
PLS note the seeds must soak for at least 5 min AND they are slimy. They have a weird texture. The good news is they slide right down and there is no taste."
