Vitacost Chia Seeds with Omega-3 and Fiber - 15 grams per serving -- 16 oz

A nutty-tasting nutrient-rich “superfood” providing omega-3 EFAs fiber and more. What are chia seeds? Chia seeds are nutrient-rich seeds derived from a plant called Salvia hispanica (of the mint family) native to Mexico and Guatemela. Aztec and Mayan civilizations regularly consumed chia seeds as a whole grain or ground into flour and used in a variety of dishes. The word chia means “strength” in the Mayan language and according to folklore the seeds were prized by ancient cultures for their energy-boosting properties.  . How do Vitacost Chia Seeds support health? Chia seeds contribute to overall health strength and vitality.*. Powerful free radical scavenging ability.*. An excellent source of fiber supporting a feeling of fullness; may help those trying to reduce the calories in their diet. *. "This chia seed is high in Omegas. I use it in hot and cold cereal as well as baked goods. It is pretty tasteless so it doesn't interfere with foods you add it to. I prefer the canister to a sealable bag too. Pretty good value for the quantity. I have ordered my second canister and will continue to buy this brand. I highly recommend it."

I see no change
 March 17, 2012
By matildasmom

"I tried this to see if I could take less psyllium husk and eat less prunes, while also getting the extra nutrition in chia seed, but it made no difference at all in the other things I have to take. Vitacost psyllium husk works great, even though it has half the fiber per serving."

So healthy!
 March 3, 2012
By Ehill
"I had read about how healthy these little seeds were and wanted to try them out. Didn't know what to do with them initially, so just threw them onto my oatmeal, cereal, yogurt and put it in my protein shakes (didn't like them in there). Then I read someone else's review and they said they mixed the seeds with vanilla almond milk, cinnamon and some stevia. Yum! A nice treat. Not sure if I felt any of the health benefits but I'm sure it was still good for me."

"I use chia seeds everyday in different ways. I add it to my foods, I bake it into homemade bread. I truly believe it helps me to feel full.
I heard about them on the Dr Oz television show. Im hoping it has many other benefits also.

"Naturally occuring Omega-3 fatty acids that go really well in yogurt, smoothies, soup, cereal etc. Very palatable and not a chore to take. I like how these tiny seeds soften to a gelatinous form in liquids or any moist product."

Gets Stuck between Teeth and Gums
 January 13, 2012
By Cleopatra
"I purchased this because I heard about all the health benefits, but unfortunately, I had no idea beforehand what the seeds looked like. They are very very tiny, smaller than poppy seeds. Buyer beware if you have any dental or gum issues. Even soaking them left a gritty texture that can irritate gums. Threw it out."

"Chia seed has been a great supplement for me in it's ability to help keep me hydrated.
I find that soaking the seed for a while before adding it to
foods seems to improve it's digestability.
I've used the white seed, but Vitacosts black seed is just as effective at a lower cost.
While this is my subjective opinion,I believe it may be partly responsible for my lack of thirst, even in hot weather."

"I particularly like the Vitacost brand as the products appear to be on the same level as the other more expensive brands.
I use the Chia seeds in my vegetable smoothies daily and sometimes I mix it with water and have it as my cereal.

Great for satiety!
 November 18, 2011
By htjj
"These are great for many reasons, and as a runner, I love them for the fact that they help with satiety. When I run long distances, I seem to feel hungry often, and when these are added to protein smoothies, cereal, or my oatmeal, I'm not starving by the end of the day. They're also very hydrating, which is great during southern, hot summer months!"
